We just got a major development. Senator Thom Tillis announced today that
he will NOT support Ed Martin’s nomination for U.S. Attorney for the
District of Columbia.

That’s a huge blow to Martin’s chances if Tillis stands firm in his
opposition – and it proves that the pressure we’ve built is working.

The news is promising, but we cannot afford to let up. In fact, the battle
just escalated.

Right-wing groups and MAGA activists are launching an aggressive campaign
to save Ed Martin’s nomination. They are flooding senators with calls and
emails demanding they fall in line behind Trump’s extremist pick.

Even with GOP senators breaking ranks, the White House has not withdrawn
Martin’s nomination. They are doubling down – and so are Trump’s cronies.

If the Senate does not confirm Martin by May 20, his temporary stint as
interim U.S. Attorney comes to an end. Chief Judge James Boasberg of the
District Court can appoint someone else to fill the role. That would be a
major defeat for Trump and his MAGA backers, which is why they are
throwing everything they have into forcing this confirmation through.

We need to fight back just as hard.

Martin has punished lawyers who helped prosecute January 6 rioters,
aligned himself with far-right extremists and an infamous Nazi
sympathizer, and has shown he is willing to weaponize the justice system
to hurt and intimidate Trump’s enemies and protect MAGA allies. Putting
him in charge of prosecutions in D.C. would be a disaster for our
democracy.
