Dear John,
In this week's newsletter, congratulating President Trump on his first 100 days in office of his second term, introducing legislation to modernize the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, and celebrating the finalists of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. If you need help with federal agencies, please reach out to one of my offices listed at the bottom of the newsletter.
President Trump's First 100 Days
President Trump’s historic second term is off to a record start!
President Trump’s first 100 days have secured our border, made our communities safer, and put U.S. foreign adversaries on notice. Republicans in Congress will work alongside President Trump to deliver on the promises we made to the American people.
Celebrating the 2025 Congressional Art Competition Finalists
Every year, I am amazed by the dedication and tremendous artistic talent of high school students throughout Illinois' 16th Congressional District.
I was honored to host my tenth reception for the annual Congressional Art Competition at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. I thank everyone who participated this year, and I want to congratulate all our finalists, particularly this year's winner, Iyve Johnson. I want to emphasize that this competition would not be possible without the teachers who support and encourage our students throughout this process. I look forward to seeing Ivye's work, "Ten Candles, Two Wishes, Nine Lives," in the United States Capitol!

Modernizing the TANF Program
It is time for Congress to modernize the TANF program to protect against waste, fraud, and abuse while ensuring it assists the most vulnerable families. I was proud to introduce the JOBS for Success Act of 2025 alongside Senator Steve Daines. As Chairman of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Work and Welfare, I am committed to ensuring the long-term success of the program while making sure that TANF funds are being used to remove barriers and help individuals realize their full potential.

Protecting Our Communities Against Sanctuary City Policies
Sanctuary city policies have contributed to the decline of Chicago and the state of Illinois, yet Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson continue to champion these dangerous policies.
With this Executive Order, the Trump Administration is supporting our Border Agents and putting the safety of our communities first.

Supporting Digital Access
I was proud to support the Rural Broadband Protection Act of 2025 to help bridge the digital divide. From precision agriculture to telehealth services, access to reliable broadband is vital to the success of rural communities across Illinois' 16th Congressional District.
Visiting with Small Business Owners
Small businesses are the backbone of Illinois' 16th Congressional District. It was great meeting with Katie Katsunis and touring her stores in Geneseo!
I always appreciate hearing directly from small business owners on what is important so that I can effectively represent their needs in Congress.

President Trump Has Secured Our Southern Border
After years of open-border chaos, strong Republican leadership has restored order to our southern border. Illegal crossings are down 95%, criminal illegal immigrants are being sent back to their country of origin, and Border Patrol agents are getting the support they need.
One More Thing: Celebrating Military Appreciation Month
This month, we honor the selfless men and women in uniform who defend our country and our freedoms.
I am grateful for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation. To all those who answer the call to serve, thank you.
It is a privilege to serve the constituents of Illinois' 16th Congressional District. Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. Please do not hesitate to reach out to one of my offices if we can ever be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Darin LaHood Member of Congress
