John,
The House Agriculture Committee was supposed to meet this week to vote on cuts to the SNAP nutrition program, but it’s been pushed to next week, which gives us more time to contact Congress and tell them to reject SNAP cuts.1
This delay is thanks to our nonstop advocacy, demanding Congress reject cuts to basic needs programs that would result in tens of millions of people losing nutrition benefits.
While SNAP benefits have traditionally been a nonpartisan issue, congressional Republicans are seeking to drastically cut SNAP in this year’s budget to pay for their tax cuts for billionaires and large, profitable corporations.
Today, CHN Action is joining with our coalition partners in a SNAP Day of Action―sending thousands of messages to Congress urging them to protect and strengthen the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Congress needs to hear from you. Send a direct message urging Congress to reject cuts to SNAP.

At a time when many are struggling with higher costs for basic needs, tens of millions of people rely on SNAP to put food on the table. Proposed cuts to SNAP would make it harder for kids, veterans, older adults, and people with disabilities to get the nutrition they need.
Children in SNAP households are automatically certified for free school meals. If Congress decreases the number of families eligible for SNAP, students in those families could also lose out on free school meals.
Food security is linked to so much more than just reducing hunger. Having enough nutritious food has health, life, and work benefits that affect every aspect of our lives. SNAP improves food security and allows families to maintain healthy diets, which in turn leads to long-term positive health outcomes.2
We cannot allow Congress to make hundreds of billions of dollars in cuts to this essential program so they can pay for more tax cuts for the rich. Join us in calling on Congress to protect SNAP, not cut it.
Thank you for all you do,
Deborah Weinstein
