Weigh In on Proposed Charlotte Budget

City Manager Marcus Jones has presented his proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget to Charlotte City Council outlined in a 500-page book. Charlotte City Council members will discus the proposed budget at the May 12 City Council meeting following the public forum. A public hearing on the proposed budget is scheduled for 6:30 PM on Monday, May 12. Charlotte City Council members will propose budget adjustments on May 19 and take straw votes on May 29. Council will consider the budget for adoption on June 9. The 2026 fiscal year begins July 1.

The proposed FY 2026 Budget is structured to fund the level of services expected by our community while continuing to advance Council's strategic priorities and key initiatives. Based on input and feedback, resources are aligned within a balanced budget to make Charlotte the place where current residents, visitors, and new members of our community thrive.

The total Proposed FY 2026 Budget is $3.65 billion and is comprised of the annual operating budget and the FY 2026 - 2030 Capital Investment Plan (CIP). The annual operating budget reflects day-to-day operations, while the CIP represents large capital outlays over a five-year time horizon.

The proposed budget does not raise property taxes, preserves core services and maintains reserves. Read the budget proposal here:
