Salaams John xxxxxx,

We need your voice!

Today, Congress pulled H.R. 867—the “IGO Anti-Boycott Act”—from the House vote schedule. But this harmful bill could return at any time, and we must stay vigilant.

H.R. 867 seeks to expand the 2018 Anti-Boycott Act by targeting individuals, nonprofits, and businesses that honor boycott calls from international governmental organizations (IGOs), such as the United Nations—even when those calls align with international human rights standards.

This bill would:

  • Chill First Amendment Protections: Criminalizing peaceful boycotts—including those focused on Israel and Israeli settlements—undermines core constitutional rights.
  • Target Civil Society: Advocacy groups, faith-based communities, and international solidarity campaigns would face harsh penalties for standing up for human rights.
  • Expand Government Overreach: The legislation opens the door to surveillance and reporting on global institutions and dissenters, threatening our democracy.

The penalties are extreme—up to $1 million in fines and 20 years in prison. This is not just bad policy; it’s a direct attack on civil liberties.

Take action now: Contact your Representative and urge them to oppose H.R. 867 if it returns. Tell Congress that peaceful protest is not a crime.

Thank you for standing up for free speech and civil society.

In solidarity,
