Update —

The past several weeks have seen a series of deadly attacks on civilians
in Ukraine.

A missile and drone attack on Kyiv killed at least 12 people and injured
dozens more last week. On Sunday night, Russia sent a wave of 149 drones
to attack targets across Ukraine.

According to the UN, at least 164 civilians were killed in March and 910
injured across Ukraine — a 50 percent increase from February 2025. In all,
more than 12,000 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the war
began.

As this conflict rages on, our teams and partners will continue to support
civilians affected by the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis —
providing childcare supplies, hygiene kits, mental health support, and
cash assistance to families who have endured more than three years of war.

Daryna from Bakhmut

Daryna purchased a new sewing machine with a cash grant from Mercy Corps,
which she uses to make traditional goods to sell in her new business.


Daryna (name changed), 59, lost her home and all of her possessions after
she fled to Dnipro in August 2022. In her new city she is starting a new
life — and a new small business making and selling traditional clothing,
dolls, and other textiles. Daryna also hosts volunteers who create altered
clothing for military veterans that were injured in combat.

Last year, Daryna applied for a grant from Mercy Corps’ Economic Recovery
Program (ERP), and received 59,000 UAH, which she used to buy a new sewing
machine and an iron to grow her business.

Nataliia and her son Maksym pick up a kit full of hygiene and personal

Charitable Trust.


Nataliia, 26, and her son Maksym, 6, (names changed) fled their home last
September, due to a mandatory evacuation order for families with small
children. Prior to evacuating, Nataliia was a pharmacist and her husband
was a railroad worker; they are now both looking for work as they try to
find their footing in Zaporizhzhia.

Maksym is autistic, and Nataliia has found it difficult to balance
childcare and searching for employment. They received a kit full of
supplies like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, feminine hygiene
products, and laundry detergent. Nataliia says that the hygiene kit will
help to save them money for other needs during this challenging time.

Serhii with his new tractor, on his property that was damaged during
Russian occupation, and is now being rebuilt with assistance from Mercy
Corps.


Serhii*, 58, and his wife Yelyzaveta, 59, (names changed) own 600 hectares
of farmland, where they grow a variety of crops. In 2022, their village
came under Russian military occupation, and their property was taken over
by the invading forces. They fled for 5 months, returning later to find
that most of their property and home was completely destroyed.

In April 2024 they applied for a Mercy Corps grant, and received 3 million
UAH which they used to purchase a tractor and begin restoring their
warehouse, a two-month process.
