Wilderness First Responder Training
This is what mutual aid looks like.
We are excited to share that this month, 29 volunteers from 6 border aid organizations came together to complete an 80-hour hybrid Wilderness First Responder (WFR) training through NOLS, facilitated by the amazing team at Larkspur Rescue.
We fundraised $13,000 to make this possibleâand thanks to your support, 7 of our Border Angels volunteers joined folks from No MĂĄs Muertes, Borderlands Relief Collective, MADR, Cruz Rosa, and Al Otro Lado to strengthen our collective capacity to offer aid in remote and rugged terrain.
This training gave us the tools to:â¨Recognize and respond to medical emergencies in the fieldâ¨Treat injuries and illnesses common in the desertâ¨Understand health conditions that may affect the people we serveâ¨Move more safely and confidently during water drops and rescue efforts
This is more than a certificationâitâs a step toward keeping each other and those we serve safe in the harsh conditions along the southern border.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort.
Water Drop
Thank you Ajo Samaritans
While in Arizona for our Wilderness First Responder training, we had the honor of joining the Ajo Samaritans for a water drop in the Sonoran Desert. đľ đ§
Four of our volunteers spent the day placing life-saving water along migration routes and learning from the long-standing humanitarian work of the Ajo Samaritans, who provide aid to travelers in the desertâregardless of immigration status.
The Ajo Samaritans continue a powerful legacy of compassion and resistance, working in solidarity to address the systemic causes of suffering at the US/Mexico border and to ensure people have access to essential resources.
This collaboration reminded us of the strength in showing up for one another, learning across communities, and standing together for justice.

Meet Mateo!
[link removed]
Some great news to start the weekend off! Weâre proud to welcome Gerardo, our newest bond recipient through the Familias Reunidas program and a collaboration between Border Angels and Kent County I-Bond in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Gerardo is a 29-year-old asylum seeker from Mexico who spent 3 months inside the Otay Mesa Detention Center. He was detained after accidentally driving onto a military base without a license. Thanks to your support, heâs now free and focused on building his future. Heâs eager to get licensed, begin working, and save up for an immigration attorney to help him stabilize his status and continue his journey with dignity.
If you would like to help others like Gerardo you can donate below.

Educational Program
Welcome back, UC Berkeley!
We welcomed a powerful group of students from UC Berkeley who joined us for both a Water Drop and Day Laborer Outreach as part of our Educational Program.
On March 25, we returned to a desert site we visited earlier this year. Many of the gallons we had previously dropped had been consumed, we also found jackets, backpacks, and clothing itemsâmore than weâd ever seen before. The desert tells stories of hardship and resilience. As access to legal pathways continues to shrink, particularly with the CBP One app no longer accessible, more people are being pushed into danger.
Two days later, during our DLO, students visited all three outreach sites. We noticed fewer laborers on footâmany are now waiting in cars out of fear of ICE. Still, the students showed up with warmth and respect, distributing over 100 care packages filled with essentials, including socks, snacks, hygiene kits, and Know Your Rights cards in Spanish and Haitian Creole.
One student even met someone from her own hometownâa reminder that these stories hit closer to home than many realize.
Huge thanks to our volunteer Lia for supporting both events, and to the King Chavez Academy of Excellence and UC Berkeley students for assembling the outreach kits.

News Spotlight:
How the fear of soft-target raids is changing undocumented migrantsâ behavior
He watched as other day laborers in a Home Depot parking lot in Pomona, California, were detained by Customs and Border Protection agents April 22.
Later, Carlos â who withheld his last name â stood before microphones at a news conference covered by CNN affiliates KCBS/KCAL and KABC. His face was obscured by a baseball cap, a mask and sunglasses, which he temporarily moved to wipe away tears.
âWe are here. We are human beings. Weâre only here to support ourselves and to maintain our families,â Carlos said through an interpreter in the news conference, which was held by advocates of day laborers.
