Email from Rep. Nehls Rep. Troy E. Nehls Highlights Matagorda Co., TX   `Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, we celebrated the first 100 days of the Trump Administration. Thanks to the strong leadership of President Trump, our border is secure, we've unleashed American energy dominance, historic investments are being made, and we are witnessing peace through strength. In Congress, I will work to codify the America First actions of President Trump. We are truly living in America's Golden Age. This Week in Washington, D.C. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes to Advance House T&I Reconciliation Proposal As Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, I am proud to announce that the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee passed its budget reconciliation budget proposal. This proposal delivers on President Trump's agenda and provides over $12 billion in funding for air traffic control (ATC) staffing and modernization. Our nation's ATC system is severely outdated. The need to modernize this system is urgent, and we can't delay any longer. This proposal provides the Trump Administration with the necessary resources to begin working to replace the existing ATC system with state-of-the-art technologies to make air travel safer and more efficient. Further, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's proposal makes historic investments in the United States Coast Guard to ensure they are equipped with the necessary tools to stop illegal aliens from entering our country, project American sovereignty in the Arctic, and protect our national security. This proposal cuts government waste by rescinding Green New Deal-style funding from the so-called Inflation Reduction Act and ensures those who drive electric vehicles pay their fair share for road usage. I commend the Chairman of the full House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Sam Graves, for his leadership throughout this process. I look forward to working with him and the Trump Administration to make our transportation system great again. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Meets with the Texas Farm Bureau Members I had the opportunity to meet with members of the Texas Farm Bureau in our nation's capital. During our meeting, we discussed the work Congress is doing to advance President Trump’s agenda and the Farm Bill. I always enjoy meeting with the Texas Farm Bureau and its members. May God bless our farmers and ranchers who work day in and day out to feed, fuel, and clothe not only our nation, but the world. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Pens Op-Ed in the Washington Reporter Highlighting Matagorda County, Texas This week, I penned an op-ed in the Washington Reporter highlighting Matagorda County, Texas, and the unique capabilities of companies located there, including Highly Innovative Fuels (HIF), LyondellBasell(LYB), and Celanese, that are contributing to American energy evolution and dominance. In Congress, I'm proud to represent a hub of innovation. I will continue to work with my Republican colleagues in the House to advance pro-American energy policies. Read my op-ed in the Washington Reporter HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Sends Letter to Brown University President Demanding an Explanation on How the University Uses Its Endowment and Improve Student Experience This week, I sent a letter to the President of Brown University, Christina H. Paxson, Ph.D, outlining my concerns regarding the imminent adverse action taken by Brown University against student Alex Shieh. Mr. Shieh emailed non-faculty employees at the university, asking them what they do all day to determine why the university's tuition has gotten so expensive. As I outlined in my letter, a university environment should encourage students to seek information and engage in civil discourse, even when it involves questioning its own administrative practices. This appears not to be the case at Brown University. Actions like those of Brown University are exactly why Members of Congress, including myself, are concerned about the priorities of "elite" higher education institutions. In my letter, I urge President Paxson to reconsider any disciplinary action taken against Mr. Shieh and to reaffirm the university's commitment to protecting the free expression of all its students. Further, I demand an explanation of how Brown University uses its $7.2 billion endowment to improve the student experience or bring down the cost of tuition. Read my letter to the President of Brown University HERE. Read the Fox Exclusive HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Pass the TAKE IT DOWN Act This week, I proudly voted "YES" to pass the Tools to Address Known Exploitation by Immobilizing Technological Deepfakes on Websites and Networks (TAKE IT DOWN) Act. This bill criminalizes the publication of non-consensual intimate images (NCII) or the threat to publish NCII in interstate commerce. The bill requires the covered internet platforms to establish and implement a notice and takedown process within one year of enactment. Further, this bill will hold offenders and Big Tech equally accountable while providing law enforcement with the tools needed to stop online predators from committing these horrifying crimes. The passage of this bipartisan legislation is a historic win in the fight to protect Americans from exploitation and abuse! Rep. Troy E. Nehls Receives the "2024 NLEOMF Legislative Champion" Award I was honored to be presented with the "2024 NLEOMF Legislative Champion Award." In Congress, I have been a consistent champion for our nation's brave and selfless law enforcement. Earlier this year, I reintroduced the National Law Enforcement Officers Remembrance, Support and Community Outreach Act. This legislation directs the Department of the Interior (DOI) to award a grant to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) for the expenses associated with operating and enhancing the community outreach, public education, and officer safety and wellness programs of the National Law Enforcement Museum. I'm proud to announce that my bill has nearly 80 cosponsors. This important legislation will pay tribute to and honor our brave law enforcement officers and bring public awareness to their service and sacrifices. As a former Texas Sheriff, I will always back the blue! Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes "YES" to Roll Back Biden-Era Regulations The U.S. House of Representatives passed multiple pieces of legislation, including H.J.Res.60, H.J.Res. 78, H.J. Res. 87, H.J. Res. 88, and H.J. Res. 89. H.J.Res. 60 would reverse a rule from the National Park Service (NPS) that imposes new restrictions on motor vehicle use within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Specifically, this rule limits off-road vehicle access, designates certain routes as closed to motorized use, and establishes new permitting and seasonal access requirements. The Left’s radical climate agenda should not limit your access to national parks. A rule issued by the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) designated the San Francisco Bay-Delta Distinct Population Segment of the Longfin Smelt as an endangered species. Further, the rule restricts water deliveries to farmers, ranchers, and communities, compounding ongoing water shortages and threatening the region’s economic stability. By passing H.J.Res. 78, House Republicans are reversing a damaging and overburdensome regulation that harms farmers, communities, and economic stability. H.J.Res. 87 would reverse a rule from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that grants California the power to mandate truck makers to sell zero-emission trucks and increase vehicle prices for consumers. H.J. Res. 88 would block a rule issued by the EPA that grants California a waiver to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035. H.J. Res.89 would roll back strict emissions rules on trucks that threaten jobs and supply chains. By passing these Congressional Review Act resolutions, House Republicans are restoring common sense, working to protect consumer choice, and standing up for the workers and industries that power our economy. I proudly voted “YES” to reverse these burdensome Democrat regulations! This Week in Texas' 22nd District Rep. Troy E. TX-22 is filled with artistic and bright young Americans. Rep. Troy E. Nehls' Fulshear District Office Hosts Service Academy Day I'm hosting a Service Academy Day on Saturday, May 31, 2025. This event would allow all TX-22 to learn how to attend one of the United States Service Academies. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must apply and meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application to be considered for an interview with the nomination review board in our office. Please note that the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. In addition to staff from my office, representatives from all five academies (U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and U.S. Coast Guard Academy) and current academy cadets and midshipmen will be on hand to answer questions. Students, parents, and educators will be able to hear from and meet with representatives on a one-on-one basis to become informed about the excellent opportunities associated with attending these premier educational institutions and the careers they generate. This forum is free; however, pre-registration is required and can be found on my website HERE. It will be held from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Rosenberg Civic Center. To apply for a U.S. Service Academy, please visit my website and complete the application. Applications are due no later than October 10, 2025, at 5 PM CST. The application can be found HERE. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call my district office at (346) 762-6600. Rep. Troy E.
