Dear John, We’ve got some bad news. The Trump administration has cancelled $1 billion in school mental health grants. These cuts only serve to hurt our kids and make them less safe at school. Access to resources like psychologists, counselors, and mental health workers is crucial to improve student outcomes, prevent gun violence, and fight America’s school shooting epidemic. [ [link removed] ]Donate to GIFFORDS Law Center today so our team can fight back against these reckless budget cuts that will make our communities less safe. After the horrific school shooting in Uvalde in 2022, Congress passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Republican leaders worked side by side with Democrats to ensure this bill would fund, among other things, mental health resources for schools across the country. School mental health services are popular. Gun violence is the number one killer of children and teens in the United States, and mental health support is a key tool in addressing this epidemic. That’s exactly why parents and survivors fought hard for this funding—to prevent other families from knowing their pain. But GIFFORDS Law Center won’t let these resources disappear without a fight. Our attorneys are working from all angles to stop these dangerous actions and to hold the administration accountable. Children’s lives are on the line. Gratefully, Kelly — Kelly Drane Research Director GIFFORDS Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence
