John,
The voter suppression bill known as the SAVE Act is now just one Senate vote away from becoming law.
This bill is a national voter purge disguised as “election security,” but its real purpose is to keep people from voting in the first place.
The SAVE Act would require in-person proof of citizenship to register to vote or update your voter registration, presenting documents like a passport or birth certificate with your legal name. But 69 million women don’t have a birth certificate with their married name on it.[1] 140 million Americans don’t have a passport.[2] And the people least likely to have those documents? Working-class voters, immigrants, older voters, and naturalized citizens.[3] This is exactly who this bill is targeting.
It’s a 21st-century poll tax, and Republicans know exactly what they’re doing. If the SAVE Act becomes law, it will become the template for voter suppression nationwide. It will rig future elections so that fewer voices are heard and billionaires’ dollars go further in dominating our democracy.
We’re organizing a wave of public pressure to stop this bill before it hits the Senate floor, which could happen as early as next week. Tell the Senate: REJECT the SAVE Act. Stop the voter purge.
We’ve seen this playbook before: make it harder for everyday people to vote while billionaires flood elections with cash. In 2024, just 100 billionaire families spent $2.6 billion to buy political power. Now, the politicians they helped elect are trying to block the rest of us from even casting a ballot. [4]
The SAVE Act would end online voter registration as well as voter registration drives, and open the door to error-riddled voter purges. That’s not democracy, it’s disenfranchisement at scale.
Let’s be clear: if you can’t afford the right documents, you won’t be allowed to vote. That’s the future the GOP wants. They’re not even hiding it anymore. They know their policies are unpopular so they're trying to win by erasing votes. This isn’t about fraud. It’s about fear. And if we stay silent, they’ll get away with it.
The pressure we build right now could decide whether this bill passes or dies in its tracks. Help flood the Senate with messages demanding they vote NO on the SAVE Act when it comes up for a vote, as early as next week.
Thank you for taking action today,
