Thousands of people gathered across Mississippi this past weekend, demonstrating that people are ready for change. The people of Mississippi are showing that they are ready for a state that represents them — and that includes the Mississippi state flag.

As you may know, the confederate battle emblem that is located in the top left corner of the Mississippi state flag has long been a point of contention for those of us fighting to move our state forward. The flag does little to promote the hospitable and welcoming nature of Mississippi.

Honoring symbols of division and hatred does little to create a Mississippi where ALL feel welcome and have opportunities to thrive. In order to build a new Mississippi where both of those things are possible, we must remove symbols that honor a time when all Mississippians were not valued.

Mississippi is the last state in the country to have a confederate emblem located on the official state flag, and there is no better time than now to make sure that ends soon.

Across the country, state and local leaders are responding by stepping up and removing confederate monuments, statues, and other relics of division and hatred. This can happen in Mississippi with your help.
