Imagine being 8 years into a project, knowing that next year, you’ll be able to harvest the fruits of your labor – just for Donald Trump to force you to stop.
That’s exactly what just happened to Empire Wind, an offshore wind project that would power more than half a million homes in New York. It’s the first time the Trump administration has moved against an offshore development that was already being built, marking a major escalation of regulatory assault.
SEEC Member Rep. Dan Goldman (NY-10) is leading the charge against Trump’s attacks on the Empire Wind project in tandem with other elected officials and several union leaders. That’s because the impacts of this reach beyond the environment: this project had employed 1,500 union workers, and those jobs are now up in the air.
That’s 1,500 working families whose next paychecks are now uncertain – in addition to the 500,000 households who are losing out on a source of clean energy.
But this administration couldn’t care less about everyday Americans whose jobs, energy bills, and local environment all rest on projects like Empire Wind. Make no mistake, Trump’s war on clean energy won’t stop in New York – he won’t rest until we go back to the dark ages of energy production.
