Folks,
We were all shocked and disturbed to see Donald Trump and Bill
Barr use the United States military against American citizens
peacefully protesting in Washington, D.C.
The Insurrection Act - an over 200-year-old law meant to combat
insurrection and rebellion - allows the President to deploy U.S.
Armed Forces to states to enforce federal laws.
The law gives wide latitude for how the President can use the
Armed Forces and for what period of time - and Trump took
advantage of these gray areas to satisfy his authoritarian
tendencies.
Now, David is taking action to prevent a president from using
this type of force in the future. If you agree that we need
additional restrictions on presidential use of military force
against American citizens, sign on here →

The Insurrection Act is not an excuse to harm civilians or shut
down lawful protests.
David is calling for new limits on presidential authority to
deploy the U.S. military to states, including limiting the
initial time in which a President may deploy the Armed Forces to
states to a period of 72 hours.
Congress must provide authorization for Armed Forces to remain
deployed to states after that 72-hour period has passed for a
maximum of 14 days unless Congress authorizes a one-time re-up of
an additional 14 days.
We cannot allow a President - whether it's Donald Trump or a
future administration - to take advantage of loopholes that allow
federal troops to break up peaceful protests or harm American
citizens in any context.
Sign on if you agree: We must place limits on presidential use
of military force against American citizens.
