Across California, leaders are desperate for solutions to avoid painful cuts to vital local services. Mayor Michael Tubbs has been hard at work revitalizing Stockton by investing in schools, health care, and clean water.
Mayor Tubbs is proud to support Schools & Communities First. He knows that kickstarting a recovery that won't leave anyone behind will take direct investment in the essential services that all of our communities depend upon. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis, state and local officials are considering making painful cuts to our schools and services, but this initiative could help lessen the blow of the cuts.
For decades, schools and local services in communities of color have been underfunded -- but we can begin changing that with Schools & Communities First by investing $12 billion every year directly into every school district, county, and city in California, while exempting residential property, agricultural property, and small businesses from any increase.
But our opponents are protecting big corporate special interests that exploit California's property tax loopholes, while hard-working communities suffer the effects of chronic underfunding.
Schools & Communities First needs your support to make sure shady mega-corporations don't drown out the voices of Californians that are sick and tired of the status quo. After qualifying for the ballot with more than 1.7 million signatures in support, it is clearer than ever that Californians are READY FOR CHANGE. We're ready to invest in our futures!

The Schools & Communities First initiative reclaims $12 billion every year for California’s schools and local communities by closing commercial property tax loopholes benefiting a fraction of corporations and wealthy investors. The initiative benefits residents and small businesses by exempting homeowners and renters from any changes while implementing new tax relief for small businesses.
