Lisa Anderson | Director of Young Adults
Today is the National Day of Prayer. This year in my personal study of God’s Word, I’ve noticed that one of my biggest areas of potential growth is my prayer life. It’s not that I don’t pray, it’s that my prayers are often and regrettably weak-sauce. Do I really believe prayer changes things? Do I believe prayer is powerful? Do I believe God hears and answers our prayers? I say so, but my prayer life says otherwise. One of my fav books on prayer, “A Praying Life” by Paul Miller, offers the freedom to pray simply. And selfishly. And whenever. I love that.
Of course as my prayer muscle strengthens, I start praying bolder, bigger and more specific prayers, and I pray more often. Goodness knows we have something to pray about. Our country, our world, our families, our futures. Start there. You can also read

Lily’s post on prayer to give you a motivation boost. Then just pray. It’s not a science. It’s not for the super spiritual only. When you pray, as your mind wanders (and it will), start talking to God about whatever your mind lands on. Even if it’s your laundry, reality TV, or that cute girl in small group. If you’re thinking about it, it must be important to you, right? Talking to God about whatever, whenever. That’s prayer.
