1) Do Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share?

Most Americans think, no they don't. Most say to pollsters they believe the rich pay far LESS than their fair share.

It's no wonder we have politicians in both parties who want to raise taxes on the fat and happy super rich.

In reality, when you account for ALL direct and indirect taxes paid by the billionaire class, the tax on their income is well above 40% and can reach close to 60%. This was the conclusion of a 2024 study by the Tax Foundation.

One wonders if those soak-the-rich taxes were to rise above 50 or even 60%, how many of the truly rich will escape to a tax haven like Bermuda? Then their effective tax rate paid in the U.S. will go down to close to zero.

2) United States Government v. Google

That was some antitrust case the federal government's lawyers brought against Google in court last week.

The allegation is that Google's "monopolistic" policies are hurting American consumers. Yet after 17 witnesses and seven days of hearings, the government failed to call ONE consumer to the witness table.

Surely, out of the more than one billion people across the globe who actually use Google, they could find someone, anyone, who was harmed by this sinister search engine?

Their failure to do so should be prima facie evidence that any supposed offense committed by Google is by definition a victimless crime.

So then who did testify against Google? Let's see...

OpenAI, Perplexity, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo - i.e., Google's competitors. And they are all in favor of the Justice Department carving up Google into little pieces. Who will get dibs on the Chrome browser?

This trial has turned into a farce. It isn't about upholding the rule of law. It's an old-fashioned shakedown perpetrated by our own government against one of our own iconic businesses.

3) Minerals In Ukraine – How About In America?

We congratulate President Trump and our friend Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on finally closing a deal with Ukraine to jointly develop their mineral resources. This will hopefully secure for America some return for the $100+ billion American taxpayers have spent defending Ukraine.

But we can't resist noting that the United States sits on a vast, $12 trillion treasure chest of our own mineral resources at home, locked up only by irrational regulatory and permitting policies.

4) Tariffs Are Making Washington Lobbyists Rich Again

The feeding frenzy is on. In the first quarter of 2025, 212 different entities registered as House lobbyists on tariffs, up from just 89 in the first three months of last year.

Executive branch lobbying is not disclosed, but is almost certainly seeing an even bigger boom.

As we previously reported, Apple CEO Tim Cook has already secured a temporary exemption from tariffs on iPhones, Macs, and other products worth billions of dollars. Trump himself confirmed he "helped Tim Cook recently" with the exemptions.

Other industries are already lining up to petition for their own exemptions. In the last five years, the Commerce Department received 425,000 company requests just for exclusions from Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs. It granted more than 200,000 of them. Expanding tariffs to almost every product creates an exponentially bigger breeding ground for cronyism and corruption.

This is why we have said that if tariffs are to be imposed, they should be at a uniform low rate without picking winners and losers.

5) Tony Blair Says Britain's "Net Zero" Plans Are "Doomed To Fail"

Sir Tony Blair of Britain's Labour Party was the UK's most successful leader since Margaret Thatcher.

So it's news that his foundation has issued a searing report questioning Britain's current Labor government over its obsession to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2050 ("Net Zero")

In a foreword to the report, Blair says "voters feel they're being asked to make financial sacrifices and changes in lifestyle when they know that their impact on global emissions is minimal."

"Political leaders by and large know that the debate has become irrational," Blair writes. "But they're terrified of saying so, for fear of being accused of being 'climate deniers.'"

"Any strategy based on either 'phasing out' fossil fuels in the short term or limiting consumption is a strategy doomed to fail," he added.

No one believes that Blair has abandoned the elite climate change consensus. Rather, it's likely that he has decided to go public with his doubts in order to provide cover for Labor Prime Minister Keir Starmer to rein in the more extreme elements of Net Zero.

Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party, reacted to Blair's report: "Even Tony Blair now says the push for net zero has become 'irrational' and 'hysterical'. We are winning the argument!"
