Dear Constituent,
Over the past 100 Days, Donald Trump and Elon Musk – the unvetted, unelected richest man in the world – have unleashed total chaos on this nation.
I can assure you, I have fought with every ounce of my moral fiber to push back against this President and his initiatives that go against the people in this nation, in this city, and in this state who deserve to be treated better.
Let's take a look at just a snapshot of my work thus far...
[CLICK HERE TO WATCH] Rep. Mfume roared "Hands Off!" to the Trump administration as a part of demonstrations launched across the United States on April 5th.
WHAT I'M HEARING FROM YOU: Fighting for the District, One Case at a Time
Constituent services are immensely important to me, and I take great pride in the work that is done by my casework team.
Every day, Baltimoreans call or email my office seeking assistance with a variety of issues ranging from receiving their Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits, to cases dealing with veterans’ affairs, immigration, federal taxes, and many more.
A breakdown of the more than 450 constituent cases my office has successfully resolved for our friends and neighbors in Maryland's 7th Congressional District in the last 100 Days can be referenced below:
As Trump, Musk, and DOGE (which I refer to as the "Department of Government EVIL") work to gut the very fabric of our longstanding government institutions, I am still hearing from so many of you with heartbreaking testimonies regarding how you have been directly impacted by these cruel policies.
This Administration's vendetta against the Social Security Administration (SSA), for instance, is an outright assault against Maryland's 7th Congressional District as well as a personal attack against our seniors, disabled workers, and children.
The Woodlawn headquarters of SSA is housed right here, in our Congressional District – in fact, over 9,000 Marylanders work for SSA.
Trump and Musk – in their heartless decimation of the federal workforce – have made it their mission to cut 7,000 workers from SSA.
Approximately 70 million Americans, including 133,460 recipients in Maryland's 7th Congressional District, depend on the Social Security Administration to pay out their hard-earned benefits.
Let's make one thing clear – ravaging the workforce at SSA and closing field offices will mean the delay, disruption, and denial of benefits.
Look no further than what happened to Kelsey from Baltimore County:

Kelsey had applied for Social Security benefits on February 15, 2025, and still had not heard anything as of April 4, 2025.
After 45 days of not hearing anything from the Social Security Administration and amid concerns about recent actions by Trump, she reached out to my office for assistance so that she could begin receiving her Social Security benefits.
Thankfully, on April 10, 2025, my office was able to get a response and secure a backpay amounting to $6,526, as well as a monthly amount of $3,078 for Kelsey.
If you need assistance navigating a federal or governmental agency process – please, do not hesitate to reach out to my Baltimore District Office at (410) 685-9199.
My staff and I are on standby, and here to help.
STANDING UP TO TRUMP AND DOGE
Time and time again, I have asserted that the fight to curtail Trump's king-like rule is not just a congressional fight, but also a constitutional fight, a legal fight, and a street fight to organize the hearts and minds of so many affected citizens.
Trump continues to lose in court. He’s losing in front of Bush judges and Biden judges, Obama judges and Reagan judges. He’s even losing in front of judges he appointed himself.
- In fourteen weeks, nearly 210 lawsuits have been filed by Americans across the country directly challenging Trump’s orders.
- As of April 24, federal judges have issued at least 108 court orders that block or pause the Administration’s lawless and unconstitutional actions.
And whether it be on Capitol Hill, through joining amicus briefs in the courts, or at rallies alongside all of you – I have worked fearlessly, tirelessly, and ferociously to cease the purge of America's civil servants and combat this Administration's harmful agenda.
Below, is an outline of just some of my endeavors and pursuits over the past 100 Days, For the People:
Lowering the Cost of Living
- A recent analysis shows Trump’s tariffs could cost families an extra $3,800 a year.
- According to the Yale Budget Lab, lower-income Americans will lose up to 4% of their annual income due to rising prices.
- In Trump's economy, the Small Business Uncertainty Index has hit its second-highest level since 1973.
- On April 7, 2025, I led a letter with Members of the Maryland Congressional Delegation that was sent to U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick demanding answers on the repercussions of newly announced tariffs on the Port of Baltimore and costs for American consumers.
- On April 9, 2025, following widespread panic in the stock market and global economies, Trump said he would back down on his reciprocal tariffs on nearly 60 countries for the next 90 days.
- But to make matters worse, the reckless MAGA Republican budget my colleagues on the other side of the aisle are proposing reveals that they are trying to raise grocery bills for tens of millions of families through historic cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
- I voted HELL NO on the U.S. House version of the Republicans' budget scheme because it threatens the approximately 230,000 people in Maryland's 7th Congressional District who count on SNAP to put food on the table.
Rest assured, I will keep fighting to save SNAP and lower costs for hardworking Americans who are being crushed by these reckless tariffs and policies.
Protecting Medicaid Benefits
- Did you know: 1 in 5 Americans rely on either Medicaid or Medicare for health coverage.
- In Maryland, Medicaid covers…
- 33% of all children;
- 42% of moms giving birth and their newborns;
- 64% of people living in nursing homes, and;
- 43% of working-age adults with disabilities.
- The MAGA Republican budget scheme I made reference to earlier could carry out the largest Medicaid cut in history.
- In essence, Trump and his MAGA Republicans' budget betrayal will cut Medicaid, while giving tax breaks to billionaires in the very same proposal.
- House Democrats are uniting together to halt these damaging Republican policies and protect hardworking American taxpayers. We are working to uplift and empower the middle class, not to bow down to billionaires and CEOs.

Defending the Federal Workforce and Civil Servants
- There are roughly 144,000 federal employees in Maryland, and an estimated 19,000 in Maryland's 7th Congressional District.
[CLICK HERE TO WATCH] Rep. Mfume delivers remarks at a February 10th protest outside of the Social Security Administration HQ to rally around protecting federal workers and government services with Senator Chris Van Hollen, Senator Angela Alsobrooks, and Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth.
- These are men and women who have had their livelihoods and job security put at risk by the purge of our civil servants being spearheaded by Trump and Musk.
Rep. Mfume, Maryland Congressional Delegation Democrats met on February 25th with leaders from the AFGE, NTEU, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, and Democracy Forward on efforts to combat attacks on our federal workforce.
- On behalf of these brave patriots under siege by this Administration, I have...
- Co-led a Resolution of Inquiry with Oversight Committee Ranking Member Gerry Connolly (D-VA) that would require the Trump administration to provide documents, communications, and information regarding:
- All federal employees put on administrative leave, removed, terminated, transferred, or assigned to another department on the recommendation of Elon Musk or DOGE;
- The Office of Personnel Management’s determination to remove employees who work on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and;
- The removal of nonpartisan agency inspectors general, and whether the Administration discussed notifying Congress as legally required.
- Co-led H.R. 492, the Saving the Civil Service Act, with Ranking Member Connolly that would combat Trump’s Schedule F classification that threatens the job security of thousands of federal workers.
- Joined an amicus brief, or "friend of the court" legal brief, in National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), et al. v. CFPB Acting Director Russell Vought, et al., that supports American consumers and notes that the recent actions toward the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), including the implementation of sweeping stop-work orders and plans to arbitrarily fire most employees, represent a blatant disregard for Congress’s role and express directives.

Over the last 100 Days, I have also stood shoulder to shoulder with concerned Baltimoreans, federal workers, and union leaders from the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), the AFL-CIO, and others at rallies and Town Halls to object to the draconian policies of Trump, Musk, and the Department of Government EVIL.
Some additional highlights of the rallies, protests, and community gatherings I have participated in can be viewed in the photos and accompanying videos linked below:

Federal Investments Secured for Baltimore
- I broke ground on Afro Charities’ $16 million redevelopment of West Baltimore’s historic Upton Mansion. Senator Chris Van Hollen, former Senator Ben Cardin, and I secured $2 million for this project to house the AFRO Archives and serve as a headquarters for both Afro Charities and AFRO News.
Rep. Mfume breaks ground on February 28th at Upton Mansion site which will be redeveloped to serve as a research center and permanent home for the AFRO Archives.
- I was thrilled to also break ground on East Baltimore Development Inc.'s (EBDI) Phase 2B project in the Eager Park community of East Baltimore. This infrastructure redevelopment project will repair and upgrade public roadways, curbs, and sidewalks, while also updating utilities, stormwater management systems, sewer lines, and lighting. I helped secure $2.3 million – alongside Senator Chris Van Hollen and then-Senator Ben Cardin – in federal, Community Project Funding for this important work.
Rep. Mfume breaks ground on April 22nd for East Baltimore Development Inc.'s (EBDI) Phase 2B project in Eager Park.
- I also joined the grand opening of The Mill on North food hall to serve the needs of residents of West Baltimore as well as students and faculty at Coppin State University – while also providing opportunities to local entrepreneurs and employment to local residents. I helped secure an $800,000 federal, Community Economic Development Grant to support construction costs to build out The Mill.
Rep. Mfume celebrates April 24th grand opening of The Mill on North food hall.
- I proudly participated in the groundbreaking of the Streets Market, a new supermarket located in West Baltimore that will provide fresh, healthy food in a long-neglected food desert. This is a vital investment in equity, access, and community well-being.

Safeguarding Voting Rights
- I defiantly voted against MAGA Republicans' so-called "SAVE" Act that would restrict Americans from making their voices heard at the ballot box.
- The bill requires voters to provide “documentary proof of citizenship” to register to vote, such as a U.S. Passport or a combination of multiple forms of documentation, which can be difficult, expensive and time-consuming to get.
- For most Americans, a driver’s license, state provided ID, tribal ID or military ID would be insufficient, and individuals who have changed their names, including nearly 70 million women, would not be able to use birth certificates to prove their citizenship.
- This bill would impact more than 1 million Maryland women that have a name that does not match their birth certificate, and the 35.9% of Marylanders without a passport.
As Members of Congress, our duty lies in upholding our democracy and serving the American people.
House Democrats are pushing back against this extreme Republican voter suppression and will never yield in our pursuit of championing legislation that actually safeguards voting rights, such as the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which I proudly support.
Americans deserve nothing less than the ability to participate freely in our nation’s political process.
Upholding National Security
Rep. Mfume responds in real-time, in the wake of “Signalgate,” on his Official X account.
- I joined two letters to get to the bottom of what happened in the "Signalgate" breach, hold those that were responsible accountable, and ensure a dangerous breach like this never happens again:
- Letter to U.S. Vice President JD Vance, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio requesting an immediate briefing to Congress on "Signalgate."
- Oversight Committee Democrats' letter to Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) urging him to schedule a hearing with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz to assess the extent of the harm to American national security interests as a result of the Signal group chat leak.
When we assess, it is clear that what is being done by the Trump administration in Washington is far from right, and their reckless actions have had ripple effects felt in Baltimore and throughout Maryland. We will not, and cannot, stand for this in silence.
My thanks to all of you who have come out to stand with me, and have allowed me to stand with you, as we push back and resist Donald Trump’s remaking of the federal government in a way that is illegal, irrational, and irresponsible.
I am not going to roll over, and I hope this Administration is prepared for the fight that is ahead, as I and others work to protect Social Security, save Medicaid from damaging cuts, and ensure the future of Medicare for all eligible Americans.
