This Contested Land with
author McKenzie Long

In This Contested Land, McKenzie Long explores the complex
stories and controversies surrounding thirteen U.S. national
monuments, from Bears Ears in Utah to Katahdin Woods and Waters
in Maine. Long visits these sites, navigating issues like climate
change, economic development, and Indigenous connections, while
highlighting their cultural and environmental significance.
Through essays that blend personal reflection with historical
insight, Long confronts the challenges these lands face and
advocates for a future that honors both their past and potential.
