A local pastor was working on a sermon in this car when he left to read a newspaper. Not a minute later, the earthquake struck and the car was crushed by a collapsing building.
Hi John,
I recently returned from Southeast Asia where a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake destroyed cities, communities and livelihoods. More than 3,700 people have lost their lives. Hundreds of thousands more have been displaced, leaving them in need of critical aid and hope.
Thanks to the quick response of partners like you, aid was quickly distributed to hundreds of people that were impacted! Ninety households received water filters and food, and other supplies were purchased and distributed that met immediate needs for about 3,500 people.
The devastation was overwhelming, but what stood out even more was the hope I saw in the followers of Jesus. Their faith was strong as they looked ahead, trusting that God would use this disaster to draw many to Himself.
Critical aid, like food, water filters, mosquito nets and more, helped meet basic needs, but also opened opportunities for gospel hope. A local believer was overjoyed to receive water filters — both for her own home, where she had recently welcomed four families who lost their homes, and to share with her neighbors. She was also grateful for the evangelism tools we provided, which she planned to use to naturally bridge conversations about clean water into opportunities to share the gospel.
One local partner I worked with while I was in Southeast Asia shared:
“The government is biased against [an unreached people group]. We have been taking food to a [unreached people group’s] village, otherwise they would starve. I get to share every morning with the entire village about Jesus.”
*People group name redacted for security
This aid wasn't just supplies; it was a lifeline. Partner gifts helped meet critical, physical needs and reminded people in crisis that they are not forgotten.
What an incredible impact critical aid is helping make happen!
When we’re able to respond quickly and generously to disasters like this – because of partners like you – it not only meets immediate needs, but it opens doors for local believers to do ministry in their communities for the long haul.
Partner support strengthens the ability to serve both now and in the future.
I am sincerely thankful for partners like you. Partner support goes beyond just providing aid – it’s a reflection of the love of Christ reaching across borders and cultures. And we believe the impact partners like you make will echo far beyond this moment. It is making a difference for eternity.
Thankful for you,
Clint McClure, VP of Field Operations | Unto
