News from Congressman Bill Foster

Dear Friend,

It’s no surprise Trump’s 100-day approval rating is the lowest our country has seen in 80 years.

  • Reckless Tariffs

Trump’s on-again, off-again tariffs have raised prices for consumers and made it impossible for U.S. manufacturers to plan. Markets crashed and fears of a global recession remain

  • Threats to Social Security and Medicaid

In February, Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, began paving the way for 7,000 workers at the Social Security Administration (SSA) to be fired, meaning longer wait times and less staff to assist recipients. In Congress, Republicans are advancing a budget that would slash billions in Medicaid—all so they can pay for trillions of dollars in tax cuts for billionaires.

  • Attacks on our Courts and the Rule of Law

Trump has repeatedly attacked federal judges whose rulings he disagrees with. In his recent mass deportation efforts, he has been skirting court orders—even those of the Supreme Court.

He has overseen the detention and deportation of people legally in the U.S. to a mega-prison in El Salvador, many of whom were denied their constitutional right to due process. It was also reported just this past week that U.S. citizen children were deported, including a four year-old receiving treatment for cancer. Not only is this unlawful, it’s cruel.

Although Democrats are in the minority, we are still able to hold the Trump Administration accountable through court challenges, public hearings, investigations, and most importantly, our collective voice. Here’s a look at what I’ve done as your representative in the first 100 days:

  • I’ve joined protests both at home in Illinois and in Washington, including outside the Treasury, the Department of Education, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, to shed light on Trump’s and DOGE’s destructive policies.
  • I’ve signed on to over 40 congressional letters demanding answers from this administration on everything from reinstating fired federal workers to safeguarding essential government services.
  • My Democratic colleagues and I have supported eight lawsuits, including those opposing the dissolution of the Department of Education, U.S. Agency for International Development, and CFPB.
  • Public pressure is a large part of how we fight back against Trump. I’ve held town halls, both in-person and over the phone, to hear directly from constituents about their biggest concerns with this administration.

Ultimately, the public’s voice is going to play an essential role in pushing back against Trump’s dangerous actions. I will continue to keep you informed on what’s happening in Washington and what I’m doing to hold this administration accountable. Thank you for staying engaged on the issues that matter most to you. Together, we will continue to fight for a government that works for all of us.

Sincerely,
