I want to tell you about my former colleague, Rep. Robert Garcia from Long
Beach. Robert and a few other Members of Congress recently traveled to El
Salvador to demand answers about the people who the Trump Administration
is throwing into horrific prisons.

More than 200 people have been taken from American streets and thrown into
these prisons without due process. This is not what democracy looks like,
and these are not normal deportations. The Trump Administration—without
regard for error—is simply throwing people into these foreign prisons
without a trial and without allowing them to speak to a lawyer or their
family.

When Robert went down there, he asked about makeup artist Andry Hernández
Romero, who nobody has heard from since March 14th. They received no proof
of life. This situation couldn’t be more urgent.

Donald Trump would like this story to go away so he can continue deporting
people—even U.S. citizens—to these foreign prisons. This isn’t a
far-fetched fear, Trump himself said “the homegrowns are next” to El
Salvador’s president.
