Since January, the Trump administration has added fuel to extreme efforts to undermine inclusive education and silence LGBTQ+ students and their families. GLSEN will not rest until every student has access to a safe, affirming, and inclusive school environment.

That is why GLSEN led a coalition of over 40 civil rights organizations, legal advocacy groups, and teachers unions to call out the unprecedented campaign of hate coming out of the U.S. Department of Education. We will not be silent as Donald Trump and Linda McMahon fire federal workers charged with investigating civil rights complaints in schools and threaten to withhold federal dollars from states that stand up for their LGBTQ+ students.

That is why GLSEN joined other LGBTQ+ organizations in filing a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in defense of inclusive curriculum. We are standing up against an extremist lawsuit that would allow a carveout from basic reading curriculum because some of the stories feature LGBTQ+ characters or themes.

That is why GLSEN chapters are pushing back when school districts take hostile actions that eliminate affirmation of LGBTQ+ students and free expression. This past month, GLSEN’s Central Florida chapter showed up to support a teacher whose contract was not renewed because she recognized a student by their chosen name and pronouns.
