John,
I spent much of last week at home in PA-05 talking to voters. Everywhere I go, folks are expressing their fear and anger at the Trump Administration. Families are concerned about price hikes, losses to their 401(k)s, cuts to essential government services, corruption, and the erosion of our rights and respect for the rule of law.
And they’re right to be worried and angry — every day it’s a new horror.
I hear one comment most of all: “We need Democrats to fight back.” That’s why I’m writing you today. We’re in a full-fledged fight for our democracy, and I want you to know exactly how I’m fighting back. I’m also going to ask for your support, because this is an all-hands-on-deck moment for democracy. We have a critical role to play in PA and need to raise $10,000 before the end of the month to power our organizing work ahead of the May primary — you can back that work here. [[link removed]]
If you’ve been keeping up with my team for a while, you may already know that resistance work takes place on three different fronts: legislation, litigation, and my personal favorite, agitation.
In Congress, my primary responsibilities are legislation and oversight: * Probing how the Trump admin is spending taxpayer money
* Fighting for resources for our families, demanding accountability.
Every day, I’m confronted with the infuriating and unacceptable reality that my GOP colleagues are more afraid to upset their dear leader than their constituents.
Pathetic.
Republicans in Congress are even voting to take away some of our own oversight powers — a stunning show of their dereliction of responsibility. In my view, these folks don’t deserve to serve in Congress.
The second front of this battle is in the courts — Democrats and our allies are fighting tooth and nail against this Administration’s countless illegal actions. Here’s one thing Trump doesn’t want anyone to know: in the courtroom, he’s losing. We can’t let up.
Possibly the most critical facet of this fight is occurring in communities across the country: public agitation. In other words — we the people showing they are pissed off, and loud about it. Historically, the best way to hold corrupt leadership accountable is through mass movements.
That’s why my team and I are hosting town halls across the state, bringing media attention to our communities, providing support to local protests, organizing year-round, and supporting local candidates ahead of Pennsylvania’s May 20th primary elections. This is where we need your help: all of this costs money. You asked Democrats to take a stand. Can you chip in a donation of any amount to support our efforts before the end of the month? We’re in a critical and fast-moving political moment, which means we must urgently gather resources to power our organizing campaigns. If you feel we must fight back, as I do, please chip in a contribution today. [[link removed]]
Thank you for your support,
Mary Gay
