Dear friend,

One month ago, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar — one of the
nation’s strongest quakes in a century.

Today, we are beginning to understand the full scale of the devastation:
The death toll has risen to 3,735 people, while more than 5,100 people are
injured and 120 others are missing. The earthquake also destroyed
thousands of homes, schools and hospitals, and left critical
infrastructure in ruins.

This tragedy has intensified an already dire humanitarian situation in
Myanmar and has made it difficult to reach families with lifesaving aid.

Mercy Corps is working with local partners, helping communities access
shelter, food, medicine, and other essentials. By revitalizing local
markets, we aim to reach 22,000 people with the critical aid they need.

Before we explain the new difficulties families are facing, there are only
a few more days until the deadline to help fund our Matching Gift
Challenge. [ [link removed] ]Will you rush a gift today to help Mercy Corps meet urgent
needs in Myanmar and worldwide and inspire others to give in this critical
moment?

Mercy Corps has been working in Myanmar since 2008, helping build
peaceful, productive, and resilient communities. When disaster struck, our
teams were quickly on site, assessing the damage and responding to the
most urgent needs.

Mercy Corps team members illustrated the severe impact of this earthquake,
not only on the families but for recovery efforts. They report:

The aftermath of this earthquake is dire. 6.3 million people are in need
of assistance in the worst affected areas, of which 4.3 million had
already been identified as requiring urgent needs in 2025. Without proper
shelter and access to food, water, and other essentials, humanitarian
needs have only compounded.

This disaster has made life even more dangerous for women and young girls.
With homes destroyed and communications cut, they now have little privacy
and are at greater risk of gender-based violence. Damage to health centers
means fewer places for safe childbirth, family planning, and receiving
care after violence.

Mercy Corps is on the ground providing urgent relief to the people of
Myanmar. Now, we need your help.

disaster, conflict, and hunger in Myanmar and around the world. Your gift
will inspire others to give and amplify our efforts to deliver lifesaving
aid to families in crisis.

Thank you for your commitment to creating a better, brighter future for
everyone.

We’ll continue to provide more updates from Myanmar and other crisis zones
in the weeks ahead.
