Dear Health Advocates,

Congress is back from their recess and they are turning to marking up their reconciliation package. The House Energy and Commerce Committee is scheduled to meet next Wednesday, May 7, where they will lay out, for the first time, the specific cuts they will make to Medicaid to achieve their $880 billion goal. Speaker Johnson's goal remains to have the House vote on a reconciliation bill by Memorial Day. As of now, we do not expect there to be a parallel Senate process to the House process; according to staff, Congressional Republicans are working behind the scenes to agree on a package.

The past two weeks of recess activities were inspiring and effective! Thank you all for your continued efforts to call on Congress to reject cuts to Medicaid. As Congress returns and begins the march to cutting Medicaid and other critical safety net programs, we need to keep the pressure on and stay strong on our messages: Medicaid matters to millions, Medicaid supports state budgets and the economy, and Medicaid is popular across the board -- no cuts to Medicaid!
