Dear Friend,
I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this, but it’s time to sound the alarm. Because we need everyone who cares about LGBTQ+ young people to know what’s going on and take action…
As you might have seen in the news last week, a draft of the administration’s budget for FY26 was leaked. In that budget, federal funds for suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ young people were eliminated. Including millions of dollars The Trevor Project counts on every year. This same budget renews all other funding for suicide prevention.
I want to be clear: this is a targeted cut aimed directly at the LGBTQ+ community. And if this goes forward, our kids will be left with the message: “Your lives are not worth saving.”
Eliminating this funding would put hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ+ youth at greater risk of suicide. So, I need your help, Friend — the kids, who will otherwise have nowhere to turn, need your help.
Trevor has launched an Emergency Lifeline Campaign ([link removed]) to mitigate any damage that might be caused by these anticipated cuts. And I hope you will support the campaign as generously as you can. Your support now will fuel our suicide prevention and crisis services as well as other life-saving programs.
Your gift is needed now more than ever to ensure Trevor can be here for LGBTQ+ young people ([link removed]) over the next four years and beyond.

Suicide prevention should never be a political issue. In fact, these funds have been approved by Congress with bipartisan support for the last four years. And that funding made it possible for Trevor to respond to half of the nearly 500,000 requests for help we got last year.
If we’re unable to fill this expected hole in our budget, Trevor’s capacity to support LGBTQ+ young people will be cut in half. At a time when the need for these services is greater than ever.
Politically motivated policies and rhetoric against LGBTQ+ youth, especially transgender youth, have been escalating for years. This has sparked a mental health crisis unlike anything we’ve seen before. Attacks from all levels of government have left our kids feeling frightened, alone, and hopeless about the future.
Yet despite the unprecedented need for suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ young people, the administration seeks to eliminate this funding — funding needed to keep our kids alive to see the better, brighter days they have ahead of them.
It doesn’t have to be this way, Friend. You can help.
