Something’s been bugging me, so I want to get this off my chest.

There’s been a lot of talk about how Democrats should focus on the economy instead of how folks are being illegally detained and shipped off to El Salvador. 

I want to make this clear: We can and must hold two things at once. 

We can simultaneously protect our basic liberties, stand up for all people to have due process and access to an attorney, and address problems with an economy that is working against us. I’m doing it every day in Congress. 

I’m calling for those who were illegally detained by border patrol to receive due process, and I’m demanding answers on wrongful arrests to keep attention on this administration’s anti-constitutional acts. At the same time, I’m pushing back against Trump’s chaotic tariff war and blatant billionaire-first agenda. 

These two things are not mutually exclusive. There is nothing more important than a man’s liberty, and if we ignore that, it’s to our own peril. 

I’m standing firm as a defender of our Constitution and the priorities of Vermont’s working families in Congress. 

Nothing will ever change that.
