** DEAR FRIENDS,
------------------------------------------------------------
More details keep coming out from the disastrous April 19th steer tailing event at Rancho La Esperanza on Ritchie Rd in Rochelle, IL.
We now know that a horse had his leg broken by a falling steer. A broken leg on a horse is usually a fatal injury. Even worse, the horse was put into a trailer unrestrained, and unsupported. The license plate on both the trailer and the vehicle indicates that “home” is Polk County, Iowa with is approximately 150 miles away.
Broken rear right leg, after the steer spun into the horses path.
Information that we received from Ogle County claims that an injured steer was “parted out and cooked for food.”
Also, the rodeo is falsely claiming that a veterinarian was on-site. That “veterinarian” is not a DVM and is in fact a vet tech for a clinic that works with personal pets, not large farm animals.
Steve Hindi, President of SHARK, has reached out the Ogle County Sheriff VanVickle many times attempting to set up a meeting has been blown off.
Steer with Broken Leg #1
Steer with Broken Leg #2
In summary, besides a horse with a broken leg, two steers had their legs broken in one day at the April 19th event. Three steers had their tails violently degloved. There were also some head/horn injuries and lamings.
None of the injured victims were taken out of the arena on a conveyance and none of them received veterinary care.
We are all over this, and will remain all over this until there is a proper resolution.
