Friend,
I recently concluded a district-wide tour – meeting folks at local hospitals and community health centers – highlighting one of the biggest threats they are facing right now: Medicaid cuts.
The truth is that Medicaid isn’t a luxury, it’s an essential means to care for countless communities across Central and Southern Illinois. No matter where you live, everyone should have access to affordable, quality care.
Unfortunately, not everyone sees it that way. And now, Medicaid is under increasing attack from Republicans in Congress. Led by President Trump,
House Republicans passed a new tax bill that would require $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid. Instead of allocating that money to working families across America, they bookmarked it for massive tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations instead.
It’s shameful, and it’s exactly what I’m fighting against in Washington. Cutting Medicaid could mean the difference between life or death. That’s not a risk I’m ever willing to take. I’m not going to cut a deal on the backs of working families – not today, not tomorrow, not ever.
I’m continuing to make my voice heard and I won’t stop until Medicaid is fully protected.
Thank you,
Nikki
