.Last week I spoke with Kansans in the Wichita area about the upcoming Tax Cuts and Jobs Act extensions and other developments in our nation’s capital.

At a roundtable with State Farm agents in Wichita, I discussed the budget reconciliation process and the need to extend the Trump tax cuts for middle-class families and workers.

It was a pleasure to visit and tour Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics in Wichita and learn more about their electrical power systems and lithium-ion batteries. We talked about the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, potential supply chain disruptions, and ensuring that our aviation manufacturers benefit from free and fair trade across the globe.

Area homebuilders are helping make the American Dream a reality. I spoke at a Wichita Area Builders Association roundtable to provide some updates on the budget reconciliation process and the extensions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa in northwest Wichita has been serving Kansans for more than a decade. It was great to tour their facility and hear about how their mission is helping provide health care for Kansans. We talked about various health care policies. Republicans have consistently stated that we don’t want to cut Medicare benefits for those who need them – instead, we want to root out waste, fraud and abuse so that beneficiaries have access to the dollars they need.

It’s always fun to talk with young Kansans. Last week I spoke to 6th through 12th graders at Sunrise Christian Academy. I discussed how our Constitution establishes Congress in Article I and that the House is the first chamber outlined in the Constitution. It is sometimes called the People’s House because it is the body closest to the American people.

Credit unions serve a number of Kansans in Wichita and rural parts of our state. I sat down with several credit unions at a roundtable hosted at Catholic Family Federal Credit Union. We discussed how credit unions offer various services to the underbanked and unbanked, and the need for greater financial literacy.

Extended stay hotels offer a unique option for individuals and families seeking longer stays in Wichita, as demonstrated by the Extended Stay America I visited in Wichita. While I was more familiar with this type of hotel option for workers coming to our community for an extended stay, I was also interested to learn how others travel here visiting family for an extended period, move to the area and stay while looking for work and a permanent residence, or simply enjoy staying for a long time instead of having a traditional apartment or home. They even taught me how to fold a fitted sheet, something that I’m sure my wife, Susan, will appreciate.

I was honored to join the incredible workforce at Textron as they officially opened their impressive new Career and Learning Center in Wichita. A strong aviation manufacturing base here in the heartland helps our local economy and ensures we have a strong national defense.
