Serving our veterans is one of my highest honors in Congress. I introduced two important bills to ensure our heroes receive the care and support they’ve earned.
The Veterans SPORT Act expands VA coverage to include adaptive prostheses and recreational devices. These devices help veterans stay active and engaged in sports and recreation—critical tools for healing both body and mind. I also introduced the Providing Veterans Essential Medications Act to ensure that state-run veterans' homes are reimbursed for costly medications, helping them continue to provide the high-quality care our aging veterans deserve.
Protecting our military installations is equally important. Rock Island Arsenal is a vital national defense asset and an economic anchor for the Quad Cities. When reports surfaced about a possible reduction in force, I immediately called on Army leadership to protect this essential facility. As a former Army doctor and Chair of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health, I understand the importance of keeping our military strong and ready.
I also had the privilege of attending the Joint Munitions Command change of command ceremony at Rock Island Arsenal, where we welcomed new leadership and reaffirmed our commitment to our warfighters.
As we continue to fight for those who served, I want to take a moment to honor World War II veteran Henry Langrehr, who recently passed away. Henry was the epitome of the Greatest Generation: humble, steadfast, courageous, and selfless. It was my honor to recognize him on the House floor and to personally meet his grandniece at the Univ of Iowa ROTC Military Ball Saturday evening. I am joined by other veterans, Iowans, and Americans in praying for his family as we reflect on his amazing legacy and service to America.
