Recently, Justice Democrats’ Communications Director Usamah Andrabi sat
down for an interview with WBUR (Boston’s NPR station) to discuss the best
way for Democrats to respond to Donald Trump in his second term.

As Usamah said, Democrats right now need to be an opposition party.

That’s not left versus right. It’s uniting the bottom against the top —
that’s what voters are desperate to see from their leaders and their
elected officials.

No Democrat in Congress should be voting for a Trump cabinet nominee while
Trump is outright trying to rob this country blind of its Social Security
and Medicaid to raise taxes for everyday people and cut taxes for the
wealthy. But multiple did.

If we don’t have power in Congress at this moment, as Republicans hold the
majority in both chambers, then we need to show people what we are
actually going to fight for. Show us what an agenda for working-class and
everyday people looks like, then dare Republicans to vote against that.

We have to be honest with ourselves about that. The Democratic Party lost
more voters who make less than $100,000 a year this past election cycle
and gained voters who make over $100,000 a year. That is not a party that
is fighting for the working class.

Justice Democrats is actively recruiting working-class candidates to
represent working-class people in Congress. We’re going toe-to-toe with
out-of-touch Republicans and Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections, and
our success depends directly on support from everyday folks like you — not
corporate PACs.
