John,
It’s been a busy week in the district, listening to feedback on how we’re delivering on the America First agenda. I wanted to take a moment and keep you updated on the important work we are doing to advance our conservative values.
On Wednesday, Vice President J.D. Vance issued a firm warning to Ukraine and Russia: make a deal or risk the United States walking away. The Trump administration wants both sides to lay down their weapons, end the senseless killing, and work toward peace and stability. President Trump is adamant about ending the war and believes the U.S. can help broker peace because both Ukraine and Russia benefit from doing business with the United States. That creates an implied security guarantee for the Ukrainians and opens up long missed markets for the Russians. It is a win-win for both countries and the world. It’s past time for Zelensky and Putin to come to terms and put an end to this horrible conflict.
Representative Ron Estes (R-KS) introduced the Unfair Tax Prevention Act along with myself and 23 other co-sponsors. The bill targets foreign-owned entities that impose extraterritorial taxes on U.S.-sourced income. Currently, affiliated American companies face double taxation—once abroad and again at home—creating a significant competitive disadvantage. This outdated framework discourages cross-border trade and burdens American businesses. This bill ensures that U.S. tax policy keeps pace with shifting global dynamics. By updating these provisions, we are leveling the playing field and protecting American economic interests at home and abroad.
Two district teenagers narrowly escaped death after a convicted felon, allegedly under the influence, crashed head-on into their SUV. When officers arrived on the scene in Wadena County, the driver handed them identification from Guatemala and blew a 0.16 blood alcohol level. He could not prove his legal status despite having prior convictions. Stunningly, a Walz-appointed judge released the defendant without bond, under conditions that he simply remain law-abiding and comply with supervision terms. A questionably illegal alien who nearly kills two teens should not be able to walk away scot-free. This decision is a prime example of why President Trump issued an executive order to deny federal funding to jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement. From the Laken Riley Act to the No Rogue Rulings Act, House Republicans are working to strengthen local law enforcement's ability to coordinate with federal agents and to put a check on liberal judges who are attempting to interfere with that.
As always, thank you for your continued trust and support. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance with anything.
