We have seen many examples of the Trump administration’s cruelty since the beginning of the year, but this is beyond the pale:

Listen, Sharice Davids understands that LGBTQ+ folks, and especially kids, deserve acceptance and support from their government. Instead, RFK Jr. and Donald Trump intend to rip that support away from a countless number of kids in Kansas and across the country.

Make no mistake: This hotline saves lives. LGBTQ+ youth are four times more likely than their peers to attempt suicide, and the hotline itself receives an average of 2,100 contacts per day. But without this resource, LGBTQ+ kids would be forced to endure a crisis alone.

With dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric reaching an all-time high, we should be giving these kids the resources they need not only to live as their authentic selves, but to thrive as their authentic selves as well. Unfortunately, these cuts represent an enormous step backward from that goal — and that’s why Sharice is fighting back.
