The National Republican Campaign Committee is running an attack ad against me for defending the Constitution:

They're slandering me for speaking out against the wrongful deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia — a decision that Trump’s own conservative Supreme Court ruled was unlawful.

Here’s the truth:

This Administration’s illegal and lawless actions against immigrants, including the wrongful detainment and deportation of Abrego Garcia, are un-American. This kind of tyranny is what led my family to flee from the Soviet Union to the United States. As a refugee, veteran, and now the representative for a large and wonderful population full of immigrants from all over the world, I won’t stand for this.

Every person in this country has the right to due process. That’s the bedrock of our Constitution. And that right was stripped away from Abrego Garcia.

I took an oath — in the Army, and again as a member of Congress — to defend the Constitution. And I’ll never apologize for doing exactly that. But now the NRCC is twisting the facts, launching baseless attacks, and calling on Republicans to condemn me for standing up for the rule of law.

We can’t let this stand.

If Republicans want to come after me, let them say it plainly: they’re attacking me for defending the Constitution and honoring my oath.
