I know what you might be thinking John, why are you messaging me first thing on a Saturday morning?

Picture this 💭

It’s early on a Saturday morning, just like today. The sky’s hazy, but as you head down to the water you can already feel the sun on your face.  

It’s still chilly, but you peel off the layers and head out into the crystal-clear water. The morning sun reflects onto the surface, as you inch your way in further, acclimatising to the cold. Schools of fish are swimming beneath you. 

No SSRS app checking beforehand. It doesn’t even cross your mind there could be pollution in the water.   

This shouldn’t be a dream. This should be our reality. And in Switzerland, it is. Switzerland once had some of Europe’s filthiest water. Now, it’s among the cleanest - thanks to bold reforms and investment in sewage treatment. Okay, Switzerland is landlocked so it’s a bit different to the UK, but it shows what’s possible.

In England and Wales at least, we’re SO CLOSE to achieving the same reform - but we need to keep up the pressure.

As we speak, the Independent Water Commission is writing up recommendations for our future water system. Our evidence must be IMPOSSIBLE to ignore, so water companies don’t wreck that future with half-truths and spin.
