John,

When President Trump announced massive, global tariffs earlier this month, the stock market took a nose dive, retirement savings cratered, the bond market began to falter, and Trump relented a little bit.

But only just a bit — he left 25% tariffs in place on some goods from Mexico and Canada, put 10% tariffs in place on some of our closest trading partners, ratcheted up tariffs on China to 145%, created exemptions for some companies’ products, and left others to question how to survive if their businesses buy from or sell to China. These tariffs are a tax on working Virginians and small businesses.

Amid the chaos, one large company in Virginia announced this week that it would be laying off 250-350 workers, citing “the impact of tariffs” among the reasons for the layoffs.

Virginians are facing rising prices. Virginia businesses are struggling. Virginians are losing their jobs.

But what has my opponent, Winsome Earle-Sears, said? She thinks tariffs are “good” and will “benefit” Virginians.

I couldn’t disagree more. We can’t trust her to look out for Virginians or Virginia’s economy. She’ll say anything to get in Trump’s good graces, even if it means selling out Virginians in the process.

As Governor, I will work to lower costs for Virginia families, not drive them up. I’ll stand with our farmers, manufacturers, and small business owners—who will be among the first to feel the pain from Trump’s economic chaos.

But we need your help. Can I count on you to contribute today so we can flip Virginia blue this November?
