Sign the petition to investigate the FBI and FBI Director Kash Patel!
Dear MoveOn member,
BREAKING: Trump’s defiance of constitutional separation of powers and attacks on the judiciary just took an even darker turn. Today, the FBI arrested Hannah Dugan—a sitting judge in Wisconsin. The charge? Allegedly obstructing ICE’s arrest of an immigrant in a courthouse.1
FBI Director Kash Patel, a COVID and election conspiracy theorist, bragged in a post on X about it—and then deleted it just minutes after.2
This is a chilling escalation in the regime’s abuse of law enforcement, like ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) as a political tool. The director of the FBI is now taking to Twitter to brag about the next stage of our dystopian future. But this isn’t law enforcement—it’s intimidation, plain and simple.
Will you sign the petition to demand Congress hold the FBI and FBI Director Kash Patel accountable?
The arrest of a sitting judge is an alarming move that signals a dangerous abuse of federal power—one that threatens judicial independence and any remaining checks on Trump’s power.
It will also make our communities less safe. People must have trust in the courts to be willing to report a crime. When people in our communities are afraid to access the courts out of fear of being snatched up by ICE, it hurts our communities in so many ways. And it ties back to the broader anti-immigrant crackdown aligned with Trump’s Project 2025 framework.
To be clear: None of this is normal. Kash Patel was appointed earlier this year by Trump to be a loyalist through and through, even if it means completely disregarding the law. During Biden’s administration, ICE wasn’t permitted to make arrests at churches, schools, or places of worship. Once Trump took office, he ruthlessly revoked these guidelines.3
And now, the administration is going after sitting judges to dismantle any remaining guardrails around their mass deportation policies.
Trump doesn’t actually care about upholding the judicial process or the rule of law. Just in the past few months, we’ve seen Trump and his administration completely admonish the courts and ignore court orders, including a rare 9-0 Supreme Court ruling to bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia after the Trump administration illegally deported him to El Salvador.4
Together, we must protect the rule of law, judicial independence, and the rights of every person who appears in a courtroom—regardless of immigration status. We’ve already seen how ICE abuses its power to target student activists, U.S. citizens, legal residents and green card holders, and Trump’s political opponents—often without a warrant.5
When does it end? If we don’t speak up now—and demand our elected officials do the same—there’s no telling how far this administration will go. Sign the petition for Congress to investigate this judge’s arrest immediately.
All of these arrests, abductions, and deportations aren’t just about attacking immigrants and marginalized communities. Trump is using his administration to fearmonger so he can continue to seize and build his power without opposition. Without checks and balances.
Demand Congress act NOW to answer for Kash Patel’s—and ultimately Donald Trump’s—dangerous overreach.
Thanks for all you do.
