John,
On March 25th, the Trump administration issued a notice that they would revoke legal status from over 500,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans - ending their work permits and opening them to deportation and giving them 30 days to self-deport.1
These immigrants entered the U.S. via the CHNV program — a humanitarian, Biden-era program that allowed migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the U.S. legally as long as they passed a background check and had a sponsor in the U.S.
On April 14th, a federal judge blocked the order from taking effect.2 This is a temporary relief as it’s expected that this case will wind its way through the courts. In the meantime, it’s up to us to take grassroots action and fight back! Sign the petition denouncing Trump’s attack on immigrants fleeing violence and authoritarianism.

Our friends at United We Dream issued the following statement:3
“Every individual who was part of the program had a sponsor in the U.S., many of them loved ones and family members who provided financial, legal and emotional support. Not only will shutting down the CHNV program disproportionately harm Black and brown immigrants, it will make them directly vulnerable to being abducted at the hands of ICE, thrown into detention facilities where abuse is rampant, and disappeared from their loved ones indefinitely. Ending this program will mean shamefully turning our backs as a country on entire families and communities who, through this program, have finally had a sense of stability. As the attacks on immigrants continue to mount, we urge elected officials at every level to defend immigrants now.”
The Trump administration's attacks on immigrant communities have been chaotic, xenophobic, cruel, and inhumane. Immigrants are vital members of our communities. They’re our friends, neighbors, family members, school teachers, and the list goes on. They are deserving of safety and protection — all things that the Trump administration is trying to take away.
Join us in condemning the Trump administration’s attacks on vulnerable immigrant communities.
Thank you for all you do,
