TOMORROW: NYC DOT's Car-Free Earth Day

WE ACT will be tabling from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in multiple locations on Saturday, April 26th as part of the New York City Department of Transportation’s Car-Free Earth Day celebration. Come join us on Broadway between West 17th & West 46th Streets; Dyckman Street between Broadway & La Marina/Inwood Hill Park; and Fifth Avenue between 40th & 50th Streets in Brooklyn. Rain or shine!

Join us on Saturday, May 3rd from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, located at 454 West 155th Street, to meet the candidates running for Manhattan Borough President. Along with our sponsors, Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center and Washington Heights Business Improvement District, we have invited all of the candidates running for this office to come and tell us why they are the best candidate for it and how they will help tackle environmental racism in our community. WE ACT Seeking an Educational Consultant for New Center

WE ACT has issued a Request for Proposals for an Educational Consultant for our WE ACT Environmental Justice Center, which is currently under construction in Harlem. Click here to download the RFP. We will be accepting applications through May 8, 2025.

Cecil Corbin-Mark Fellowship

Cecil Corbin-Mark Fellowship:
Applications Close Soon

The deadline for applications for the 2025-26 Cecil Corbin-Mark Fellowship for Environmental Justice Leadership have been extended to May 2nd. This fellowship, named in honor of Cecil Corbin-Mark, who served as WE ACT’s Deputy Director before passing away in 2020, is a unique opportunity for young people to continue to follow in his footsteps and begin a career path to become the next generation of environmental justice leaders.

This year, we will be hosting one fellow based in Washington, DC, beginning in June and lasting for one year. Learn more about the fellowship and how to apply here. And read about the experiences of former Cecil Corbin-Mark Fellows in this blog post.

Yosef Robele wrote an Op-Ed in Common Dreams on the public health threat from the Trump administration’s undermining of the federal clean transportation programs and policies.

Annie Carforo was quoted by the Public News Service in an article about the importance of the GAP Fund in helping environmental justice communities participate in New York State’s energy efficiency and weatherization programs.
 
New York State Senator Cordell Cleare and Residencia Esperanza Housing Development Fund Corporation’s Board of Directors President Gabrielle Ortiz co-authored an Op-Ed in the Albany Times-Union urging Governor Hochul to support the GAP Fund.

Our Climate Justice Working Group discussed cumulative impacts in preparation to submit comments during the rulemaking phase of the Environmental Justice Siting Law. And then they got their hands dirty making “seed balls” to plant in their community.
