Dear Neighbor,
Last week I had the honor of hosting 105 new American citizens for a naturalization ceremony at the Rialto Square Theatre in downtown Joliet.
From Brazil to India, South Korea to Moldova (just to name a few) we welcomed new Americans from 34 different countries and the energy at the ceremony was moving and inspiring.
The joy and celebration at the ceremony was an important reminder for me that our American story has been shaped by generations of immigrants from all around the world who have not only made our history better, but also our country. Here in the 14th, immigrants are our friends, neighbors, coworkers, small business owners, and great contributors to our community.
I was so proud to join the families and loved ones of our new American citizens to welcome them to this new, exciting chapter. I know that their innovation, courage, bravery, and resilience will enrich and strengthen our community.
However, I know for many in our community it feels like we are in an incredibly difficult and unpredictable time, and I want to remind you that my office is here to serve you.
Whether you need help navigating federal agencies, Medicare, Social Security, IRS cases, food and nutrition security, or housing assistance my team and I are here! You can contact with us at 630-549-2190 or by visiting Underwood.house.gov.
To our new American citizens and neighbors, congratulations! We are so excited for your new journey. Best, Lauren
