Washington’s economy is heavily dependent on maritime commerce, which supports nearly $46 billion in revenue and over 174,000 jobs from fisheries, trade, tourism, recreation and more.

But, all of this could be wiped out in an instant by an oil spill.

This week, I joined with my colleagues in the Senate to reintroduce legislation that would permanently ban offshore oil drilling along the West Coast.

We’ve seen the damage caused by oil spills in coastal communities: marine species devastated, beaches and precious public lands destroyed, billions of dollars lost for local businesses.

It’s time to stop putting our invaluable oceans, fisheries, coastal communities, economies, and planet at risk just for the benefit of the fossil fuel industry’s profit margin. It’s time to put an end to offshore drilling along the West Coast, once and for all.

Americans everywhere are speaking out: We want protections for our treasured waters along the Pacific Coast, and the coastal economies and marine ecosystems who rely on them.

If you’re on board, add your voice: Do you support a permanent ban on offshore drilling on the West Coast? [[link removed]]

Thanks for speaking up.
