![]() If you haven’t heard, Congress has been out of session for the last two weeks, so I took the opportunity to speak directly to the people of Kansas. It’s no secret that hardworking families are facing a number of challenges right now. But instead of listening to the people and tackling those challenges head-on, many of my Republican colleagues are running scared and refusing to hear the voices of their constituents. I understand that families are demanding answers right now — and rightfully so. That’s why I was so happy to host a town hall in Kansas City earlier this week alongside Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. I’m so grateful to the hundreds of folks who showed up on Monday to voice their concerns, take action, and ask us tough questions. Because our leaders in government, including myself, should always be accountable to the people. Unfortunately, far too many of my colleagues don’t believe in that accountability. Instead of letting their constituents’ questions, concerns, and stories guide the work they’re doing in Congress, National Republicans are turning their backs on the people to curry favor with Donald Trump and their ultra-wealthy donors. Being a member of Congress doesn’t mean you can vote against the interests of the American people, then lie low when the people start demanding answers. We have to answer questions, even when they’re difficult. Because that’s what real leadership is. The American people deserve leaders who will do their jobs and serve the people who elected them, not politicians who run away at the first sign of trouble. If you agree, will you pitch in a donation to help me keep serving the people of KS-03? Make no mistake: It’s going to take a groundswell of grassroots support to defeat the National Republican machine once again and keep this competitive district blue.
