For years, toxic sewage has flowed from the Tijuana River and into the Pacific Ocean -- harming our health, our economy, and our environment. I’ve been fighting to fix it since day one in Congress. Since 2019, I’ve helped to secure hundreds of millions in federal funds to address this issue. And thanks to that commitment, Mexico has stepped up their efforts as well. My wife’s nephew trained as a Navy SEAL at Coronado and later developed cancer. We don’t know if the pollution caused it, but we do know toxic waste in our water puts health at risk. And to those just waking up to this: I welcome your participation. But let’s be honest, this isn’t a new crisis. It appears some have recently discovered the issue because it’s good for a photo op or Fox News appearance. But frankly, we don’t need the same tired old partisan nonsense -- particularly not on something as important as this.
