Senior Town Hall with Houston Rep. Sylvia Garcia (TX-29)

Earlier this week, I joined Houston Rep. Sylvia Garcia in East Aldine for a town hall to discuss the journey ahead to protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and other benefits for our seniors. Thank you to all who joined and for sharing your stories.

Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) Excellence in Government Service Award

I was honored to receive the MALDEF’s Excellence in Government Service Award. From a young age, my mother, Rosie Castro, instilled in my brother and me a deep appreciation for the democratic process and the importance of serving one’s community. I feel privileged to support MALDEF’s litigation efforts in supporting voting rights and equitable education and advancing justice for Latino communities.

Legislative Updates

Letter Opposing Trump Ending IRS Direct File Program

The Administration wants to recklessly cut IRS’ Direct File program that many folks use to file their taxes. I signed on to a letter with Senator Warren and more than 170 Members of Congress to call out the Administration’s deliberate sabotage of this popular and effective program that saves hardworking Americans money and time.
