Episode 2 of Slingshot The podcast ([link removed] aired on Thursday, April 24th at noon!

Kadida opens with the story of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father wrongfully deported to El Salvador and detained in one of the world’s most notorious prisons. Gracia remains detained in El Salvador despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling calling for his return.

Kadida then shares her recent experience at a protest where someone told her to "go back to Africa," leading to a larger conversation about the power of protest, Black identity, and diaspora pride.

Both our founding CEO and our Senior Director of Campaigns and Engagement, Dr. Kimeka Campbell spoke at Hands Off protests, a series of demonstrations launched across the country.

Participation is the foundation of a strong democracy. When people understand how government works, what their rights are, and how to engage in the political process, they’re more empowered to vote—and to vote with purpose.

On April 22nd, 2025, Idavox published an article titled: “Go Back To Africa!” Judge’s Son Harasses Rally Participants in Pennsylvania With Racist Slur.

The publication highlighted an incident from April 15th. During a peaceful demonstration in support of the Maryland man who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador by the ICE last month, a man posing as a journalist harassed the protesters. Before leaving, he told our founding CEO to "Go back to Africa!"

On April 15th, 2025, Gwen McKinney published an article titled:
Mass Protests in Black and White – Are We Showing Up? ([link removed] Word in Black.

"'From the podium at Philadelphia’s Independence Mall, Kadida Kenner, executive director of the New Pennsylvania Project, scanned the vast human landscape at the April 5 “Hands Off!” protest. Among the estimated 30,000 assembled, she made a stark observation: Black protesters were missing…
Multiracial protests are important public statements, says Kenner of Philadelphia, who describes such activities as “human yard signs.'”
"'Demonstrations are events, not movements,' Kenner says. 'They proclaim to the world your beliefs, joining with people who share your values and say we are not alone.' Harkening to Fannie Lou Hamer: Nobody’s free until everybody’s free, Kenner stressed, 'If we’re erased, the aim is to also deny the generational horrors that have been visited upon Black people. But our oppression impacts the nation.'”

On April 10th, 2025, Victoria A. Brownworth published an article titled: The escalating risks of free speech in Philadelphia Gay News.

"'The march also highlighted how critical government programs are for our leaders at the federal, state and local level. Black leaders like State Rep. Rick Krajewski, State Sen. Vincent Hughes, and Kadida Kenner of the New Pennsylvania Project ([link removed] all spoke to the crowd. City Council’s first LGBTQ member, Rue Landau, spoke, as did Randi Weingarten, the lesbian union president of the American Federation of Teachers. Trump has signed an executive order ending the Department of Education, which he has blamed for a 'too woke' agenda including critical race theory and LGBTQ issues.'"

On April 10th, 2025, Victoria A. Brownworth published an article titled:
What is the SAVE Act and Why Did The House Pass It? in Politics PA.

"'No one should have to pay to vote — but that’s exactly what this Act is doing by requiring documents that cost money and an enormous amount of time and effort to obtain. Make no mistake, this barrier would be a 21st-century poll tax designed to block people from having a say in the decisions that shape our lives,' said Kadida Kenner, founding CEO of the New Pennsylvania Project."
