Did you hear about Trump’s new plan to address America’s declining birth rate?
Among other things, the administration wants to teach women how our menstrual cycles work, bestow medals on mothers of six or more children, and offer “baby bonuses” of $5,000 cash to moms who give birth.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the government has NO business interfering in a family’s decision about whether or not to have children.
But if we’re going to talk about what would ACTUALLY make it easier for women to choose to have kids, let’s be honest about what moms really need:
- Paid family and medical leave for everyone
- Universal childcare
- Reproductive freedom
- Affordable healthcare
- Common-sense gun reform that protects our kids
The president cannot force families to have children and then refuse to support them. If we want more babies, we need a system that supports moms—not just in theory, but in policy and practice.
And to build that system, we need more mamas in elected office.
