A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan

This week began with the sad news of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a deeply respected global figure whose life was dedicated to service, compassion, and the values of unity and hope. On behalf of the Council, I extend heartfelt condolences to everyone in Nottingham’s Christian community and beyond who are mourning this loss. Read our full tribute here [ [link removed] ].

Pope

Earlier this week, the Council accepted nearly £76 million in Government funding so that over 2,500 properties across Nottingham can receive energy efficiency improvements to help reduce bills and carbon emissions. This funding will upgrade a significant amount of social housing stock through the installation of measures to help deliver warm and energy efficient homes and is a fantastic result for the city. It will help us create warmer, healthier homes, save residents money, and reduce emissions. See below for more information.

At the same time, it’s been a sport-filled week for Nottingham, with some incredible achievements and exciting fixtures showcasing the talent, passion, and community spirit our city is known for.

Emily

I’d like to start this week by sharing a huge congratulations to Nottingham’s very own Emily Campbell, who has just claimed her fifth consecutive European Weightlifting title. Emily continues to be an inspiration not just here in Nottingham, but across the country – and we couldn’t be prouder to see her representing Britain with such strength and determination on the international stage.

A massive well done also to the Nottingham Panthers, who delivered an unforgettable performance to win the Elite League Play-Offs Grand Final in overtime at the National Ice Centre, their first silverware since 2016. Congratulations to the team, the fans, and everyone involved in this incredible victory.

Panthers

Looking ahead, we know many of you will be gearing up for a big day on Sunday 27 April, when Nottingham Forest head to Wembley for the FA Cup Semi-Final. The Council has been working closely with East Midlands Railway (EMR), Network Rail, and other key partners to support fans making the journey, particularly given the planned engineering works and increased demand from the London Marathon on the same day. You'll find further travel information below.

Good luck to Nottingham Forest! We’ll be cheering you on from home and hoping you make it to the final!

And finally, good luck to everyone from Nottingham taking part in the London Marathon this Sunday, including our very own Ross Levy who works in the Councils Transport Team. Whether you're running for a cause close to your heart or challenging yourself to achieve something new – we’re rooting for you all the way.

Wembley
Travel support in place for Nottingham Forest fans heading to Wembley

As Nottingham Forest prepares for their FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley on Sunday 27 April, fans are being advised to plan ahead due to a reduced rail service and high passenger numbers.

In response to planned engineering works and the added pressure from the London Marathon on the same day, East Midlands Railway (EMR), Network Rail, and partners have put in place a range of measures to support travelling supporters.

✔️ Additional morning services between Nottingham and London St Pancras
✔️ Standby buses available at key stations including Nottingham, Beeston and Long Eaton
✔️ Strengthened connections via Grantham for alternative travel through London King’s Cross
✔️ Crowd control measures and extra staff at Nottingham and London stations to manage flows safely
