Dear John,
I wanted to take a moment to speak to you about our new DNC chair’s vision for the future.
Ken Martin was the head of the Minnesota state party association, and focused on a 57 state strategy. He firmly believes that if we organize everywhere, we can win anywhere. Writing off a state as a lost cause won’t help our overall strategy.
We need to be competing at every level and every race, and no race is too small for investment and organizing. Many seats can be challenged and won if we just show up!
Do you know someone in your community who’s a proven leader? Encourage them to run for a local school board or town council position. There also is a huge gender gap in potential candidates who have considered running for office, and may just need a push to say that they’d be good for the job.
A lot has changed since we first saw women enter the political arena, but until women are just as likely as men to consider running for office—even if they ultimately write it off as something they don’t want to do—then we really haven’t achieved full inclusion of women in the political system.
So let’s all commit to doing more in our local community to keep resisting this administration. Whether it’s by donating, doing local activism work, or being educated and informed about local elections, it all matters.
Please chip in here if you can so we can organize - and win - everywhere.
