Introducing 24-Hour Nitrate Network

Please join us today, Friday, April 25, from 10-11 a.m. where the new 24-Hour Nitrate Network will be introduced.

The MPCA is installing an automated network to monitor nitrate levels in some of our rivers and streams. The network generates free, publicly available water quality data from places with historically high nitrate levels. The data will make nitrate levels visible.

MPCA experts will share with you the network's:


* implementation schedule
* technology and equipment used
* network locations and
* answer your questions

Like many states, Minnesota has been working to address excess nitrogen and nitrate in our waters. The new 24-Hour Nitrate Network will help us get a more detailed look at nitrate levels in our streams and rivers where excess nitrate has been a persistent problem. The network allows us to get insights into nitrate trends and levels. The Minnesota Legislature and the Clean Water Fund [ [link removed] ] provided funding for the network in 2024.​
